Quarterback Rick Clausen of Taft was greeted Friday night by a surprise visitor before playing against Granada Hills.

Brother Casey, a freshman quarterback at Tennessee, secretly came home to watch Rick for the first time as a varsity starter.

“He gave me a hug and said, ‘Good luck,’ ” Rick said. “I got a little nervous when he got there. I kind of had to show him.”

Clausen set school records for pass completions (24) and attempts (42) in Taft’s 40-6 victory. He finished with 340 yards and five touchdowns.

As for what Casey thought of his performance, Rick said, “He said I played well but, ‘You’re still not as good as me.’ ”

Casey will make his first start on Saturday against Alabama.
