With a combined record of 0-15, Santa Ana, Saddleback, Fullerton, Orange Coast and Golden West are underdogs again this week.

Fullerton, which faces Riverside (2-1) at Cal State Fullerton at 1 p.m. today, appears to have the best chance for a victory. Riverside is the only unranked opponent playing a county team this week.

Santa Ana, the defending Mission Conference Central Division champion, is due for a victory but must stop No. 12 Pasadena’s offense, which averages a state-best 508.3 yards per game. The game is at Pasadena at 7 tonight.

Saddleback is also due. The Gauchos have lost to Riverside, Cerritos and Pasadena by an average of three points. They play at No. 15 Long Beach at 7.

Orange Coast will have its hands full with Mt. San Antonio, which is ranked No. 2 in the state. The Pirates, averaging only 154.7 yards per game, play at Mt. SAC at 6 p.m.

Golden West will also likely struggle at home against Cerritos (3-0) at 7 tonight. Cerritos is ranked No. 4 in the state and the Rustlers haven’t won in more than two years.

VOLLEYBALL

Riverside North High middle blocker Sami Cash said Friday she intends to play volleyball at UC Irvine.

A 6-3 middle blocker, Cash plays for the Inland Empire Rancho Verde club team and said she chose Irvine over several East Coast schools because she believes she has a chance to start right away. She is the first player in the 2001 graduating class to commit to first-year Coach Charlie Brande and associate coach Laura Alford, who will lose five seniors at the end of the current season.

“I really believe that the program will be going somewhere, especially with the coaching they have,” Cash said. “There’s a good opportunity for me.”
