San Fernando Chases Mah in 6-2 Victory Over Sylmar

John Sandoval’s bases-loaded triple in the first inning was the decisive hit in San Fernando High’s 6-2 victory Monday over visiting Sylmar, giving the Tigers sole possession of first place in the Valley Mission League.
Jamie Mah (2-2), coming off a week in which he helped the Spartans (8-4, 4-1 in league play) sweep Kennedy, was wild on the mound. He hit four batters and couldn’t overcome a rocky first inning in which he allowed five runs.
Left-hander Jess Moreno, proving that San Fernando (11-2, 5-0) has two capable pitchers, limited the Spartans to five hits. Now the Tigers can turn the ball over to ace Abraham Gonzalez (6-0, 0.77 earned-run average) on Wednesday.
“Surprisingly, we’re getting different guys clutching up for us,” Coach Armando Gomez said.
Aldo Montalvan and Danny Salazar had run-scoring singles for the Tigers. Sophomore second baseman Pedro Montero had a single, drove in a run and played splendid defense, twice turning double plays.
