Taft Gets Off Floor Again and Defeats Chatsworth

So this is why Taft High is two-time defending City Section champion.

The Toreadors, staring at a loss, came back to beat Chatsworth, 15-6, 6-15, 9-15, 15-10, 15-8, and all but wrapped up a third consecutive West Valley League boys’ volleyball championship Thursday at Chatsworth.

Bryan Capper, a member of both championship teams, had 17 kills, six in the fifth game to help Taft (8-1, 5-0 in league play) extend a 5-4 lead.

Coming from behind is part of the package for Taft, which trailed Chatsworth last week in a pivotal third game but rallied to win the game and, ultimately, the match. The Toreadors also rallied against Monroe earlier this season.

“I’d like to say it’s a surprise and I’m happy, but I’ve seen this three times this year, where we have our backs to the wall and come out firing,” Taft Coach Doug Magorien said.

Jeff Sperling had 11 kills for Chatsworth (7-2, 3-2), which doesn’t have Taft’s experience.
