Royal Takes Care of Its No. 1 Ranking and Beats Westlake

David Russell had 20 kills and Royal High defeated Westlake, 13-15, 15-8, 15-8, 15-10, in a Marmonte League boys’ volleyball match Friday night at Royal.

Russell, who has committed to UCLA, had eight digs for Royal (15-2, 8-0 in league play).

Kamil Kowalski had 16 kills for the Highlanders, ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times.

Ryan Foltz had 12 kills for Westlake (7-4, 5-3), ranked No. 9 in the region.

Thousand Oaks def. Simi Valley, 15-9, 15-11, 15-10--Danny Raven had 15 kills and Micah Porter had 13 for the Lancers in a Marmonte League victory at Thousand Oaks.

Porter had a .455 hitting percentage for No. 5-ranked Thousand Oaks (8-3, 6-2), with Raven at .321.

Moorpark def. Agoura, 15-5, 15-6, 15-4--Cary Hanson had 16 kills for the Musketeers (8-4, 4-4) in a Marmonte League victory at Agoura.

Danny Watson had five blocks for Moorpark.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Cal Lutheran 10, Pomona-Pitzer 5--The Kingsmen had seven extra-base hits among their 10 and took a two-game lead over Pomona-Pitzer (16-8, 9-3) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Cal Lutheran.

Ryan Cooney went three for three with two doubles and one run batted in for Cal Lutheran (18-7, 10-0).

Scott Courneya (4-2) allowed five hits, two earned runs and struck out four in seven innings.

MEN’S TRACK

Foothill Conference Dual Meet Championships--Anton Porter and Jerrick Holmes led Antelope Valley to a second-place finish behind San Bernardino Valley in the four-team meet that was scored as a series of dual meets at Antelope Valley.

Porter, a freshman from Highland High, won the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 56.67 and ran on the winning 400 relay team that clocked 42.39. He also placed second in the long jump at 23-0 and second in the triple jump at 48-9 1/2.

Holmes, a freshman from Palmdale High, won the high jump at 6-9 1/2, was third in the 400 in 48.18 and ran on the 1,600 relay team that was second in 3:25.00.

WOMEN’S TRACK

Foothill Conference Dual Meet Championships--Dawn Dvorak won the pole vault and Stephanie Ramirez took the long jump to help host Antelope Valley finish second to San Bernardino Valley in a three-team meet that was scored as a series of dual meets.

Dvorak cleared 10-0 and Ramirez leaped 16-0.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Santa Paula 6, Santa Clara 0--Pati Arana had four hits and an RBI in a Frontier League game at Beck Park in Oxnard.

Lauren Bustillos (5-0) pitched a one-hitter, striking out three and walking two for Santa Paula (11-1, 4-0)

Alemany 4, Flintridge Sacred Heart 3--Katie Yazgulian singled home the winning run in the 10th inning of a Mission League game at Alemany (8-6, 2-0).

Kaitlin Reis had three hits for Alemany, which rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the seventh.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

Canyons 83, Santa Monica 21--Sarah Mannino collected her seventh consecutive victory in the 100 butterfly, clocking 1:11.24, to help the Cougars win a Western State Conference meet at Canyons.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Antelope Valley 9, Victor Valley 0--Marcia Ball pitched a one-hitter and the Marauders (18-7, 9-2) won a Foothill Conference game at Victor Valley that was called after five innings because of the eight-run rule.

Katy Gonzalez had four hits for Antelope Valley, which remained in a tie for first with Chaffey.

BOYS’ GOLF

Granada Hills Hillcrest Christian 218, Thousand Oaks Christian 300--Amrit Nat and Nick Martin each birdied two holes in an Alpha League victory for the Eagles (5-5, 4-3) at the Knollwood Country Club.

Nat finished at one-over-par 37.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Long Beach State def. Pepperdine, 30-28, 30-24, 30-28--Dave McKienzie had 17 kills for the 49ers (16-6, 11-5) in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation victory at Long Beach.

Scott Wong and Lance Walker each had 13 kills for Pepperdine (14-8, 9-8).

Pacific def. Cal State Northridge, 31-29, 30-26, 30-24--Eckhard Walter had 19 kills, but the Matadors lost a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Pacific.

Ozer Ozkaya added 16 kills for Northridge (11-13, 3-11).
