Calabasas’ Sacks Wins Tennis Title

Sixth-seeded Gary Sacks of Calabasas upset top-seeded Andrew Orban of Fayetteville, N.C., 6-4, 6-3, to win the singles title at the U.S. Tennis Assn. Boys’ 14 Super National Hard Court Championships on Sunday in San Antonio.

Sacks, who will attend Calabasas High in the fall, and Skate Gorham of Ojai lost to the top-seeded Orban and Brian Hartness of Brentwood, Tenn., in the doubles final, 6-1, 6-1.

Second-seeded Lindsey Nelson of Orange defeated 17th-seeded Riza Zalameda of Los Angeles, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, in the third-place playoff at the Girls’ 16 Super National Hard Court Championships in San Diego.

Nelson attends Villa Park High; Zalameda attends Beverly Hills.

Zalameda and Anne Yelsey of Corona del Mar High defeated Joelle Schwenk of Boca Raton, Fla., and Jolyn Taylor of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-2, to win the doubles title.

Fifth-seeded Todd Widom of Coral Springs, Fla., defeated 10th-seeded Lester Cook of Sherman Oaks, 6-3, 6-4, in the third-place playoff at the Boys’ 18 Super National Hard Court Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Thirteenth-seeded Jamil Al-Agba of Camarillo lost to fifth-seeded Wayne Odesnik of Weston, Fla., 6-2, 6-2, in the third-place match of the Boys’ 16 tournament in Kalamazoo.
