Sylmar 75, Canoga Park 72--Senior transfer Frank Robinson scored 14 points, including the last four of the game, and Sylmar overcame a 16-point, second-half deficit in the first round of the Sylmar tournament. Louis Darby had 20 points for Sylmar (1-0).

Maurice Neal scored 41 points, including 10 three-point baskets, for Canoga Park (1-5).

Santa Ana Mater Dei 79, Cajon 59--Mike Strawberry had 22 points and 14 rebounds and Wesley Washington scored 15 points for Mater Dei, ranked third in The Times’ regional polls. Donovan Morris scored 26 points for Cajon.

Santa Margarita 59, Los Alamitos 57--Brandon Rohe scored 17 points for No. 9 Santa Margarita (6-0) in a nonleague game.

Aquinas 81, San Jacinto 66--Glenn Ohaeri had 30 points and Jermain Harris had 28 for host Aquinas (1-0, 3-3).

In girls’ basketball:

L.A. Jordan 64, Granada Hills 62--Taiesha Waters made two free throws with seven seconds left to lift Jordan (7-1). Tishawn McCory and Cathy Johnson each had 14 points for Jordan. Kelly Beckler scored 35 points for Granada Hills.

Lynwood 93, Anaheim Canyon 17--Andrea Adams scored 20 points to lead No. 2 Lynwood (3-0) in the quarterfinals of the Norco tournament.

Rolling Hills Prep 66, Beverly Hills 57--Charmaine Jones scored 36 points for Rolling Hills (6-1) in a quarterfinal victory at the Marlborough tournament.

Michelle Hale scored 25 points for Beverly Hills (2-4).

Bell Jeff 56, Pilibos 46--Jennae Peoples had 12 points and 18 rebounds for Bell Jeff (4-1) in the AGBU tournament championship game. Peoples was named tournament MVP.

In boys’ soccer:

Brea Olinda 3, Capistrano Valley 1--Mike Sanchez, Danny Yezarski and Brandon Young scored as host Brea Olinda (5-0-2) upended the No. 9 team in The Times’ rankings. Chris Matheson scored for Capistrano Valley (6-2).

In girls’ water polo:

Corona Del Mar 12, Arlington 3--Christina Hewko scored five goals to lead No. 6 Corona Del Mar (3-0) over No. 9 Arlington (6-2) at Corona del Mar.
