Carr Sets Record for Career Assists in Matador Loss

Share

Markus Carr of Cal State Northridge became the Matadors’ all-time assist leader Saturday in an 88-75 loss to Eastern Washington.

Carr, a junior from Palmdale High, was credited with an assist on a breakaway dunk by Brian Heinle that moved him ahead of Andre Chevalier on the Northridge career list. Carr, who leads Northridge with 158 assists, has 491 in his career.

Two weeks ago against Northern Arizona, Heinle became Northridge’s career scoring leader and has raised his career total to 1,387 points. Heinle also is the Matador career leader with 70 blocked shots.

The power crisis that has struck California has taken its toll at Cal Lutheran.

The school’s men’s and women’s basketball teams managed to squeeze in three home games last week, but not after the campus was virtually without power for the better part of four days because of so-called “rolling blackouts” instituted to conserve electricity.

The campus operated under limited power but it was fully restored for the Kingsmen’s game Wednesday and the Regals’ home games Tuesday and Friday.

“The place was a ghost town by day,” campus spokesman John Czimbal said.
