County Team Set for California Cup

Edison twins Bianca and Rachael Ziemann, state finalists in the high jump the last two years, highlight a team of Orange County track and field athletes who will compete at the inaugural California Cup High School Meet of Champions on Feb. 11 at Staples Center.

The meet will include three field events, six races and two relays. Teams will be comprised of invited athletes from the Orange County, San Diego, Los Angeles City and Los Angeles County areas.

Other county entrants include Dana Bethel of Mission Viejo in the 55-meter hurdles, Darryl Poston of Edison in the 55-meter dash, Jenny Sears of Mater Dei in the 3,000 meters, Alex Marbley of Tustin in the high jump, Travis Jones of Esperanza in the shotput, Kris Monte of Capistrano Valley in the 800, and Lori Mann of Santa Margarita in the mile.

The meet will precede an open competition, the inaugural Powerade Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will feature Olympic-caliber athletes such as Maurice Greene and John Drummond.
