No. 5 Servite Defeats El Dorado in Tennis

Fifth-ranked Servite, playing without its top singles player, beat visiting El Dorado Monday, winning on total games, 79-77, after the teams tied, 9-9, in a nonleague boys’ tennis match.

Rich Mauban and partner Marcus Martinez swept at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2, for Servite, which remains unbeaten at 4-0.

Servite’s Pat Buchanan missed the match with a pulled chest muscle.

In other nonleague tennis:

No. 3 University 14, Aliso Niguel 4--Jeff Lawrence, playing at No. 1, led a singles sweep for the host Trojans (3-1).

Brea Olinda 12, Santa Fe Springs Santa Fe 6--Junior Isaac Lee and sophomore Stephen Lee swept their singles sets for the host Wildcats (2-4). Santa Fe is 2-1.

Laguna Hills 10, San Clemente 8--Brian Baghai and Eugene Kalinsky, playing in the No. 1 doubles slot, swept, 7-6, 6-0, 6-0, for the Hawks (6-1).

In nonleague golf:

No. 9 Villa Park 401, No. 7 Brea Olinda 410--Ryan Wright shot 77 to earn medalist honors for Brea (2-1) in the two-day match at Green River and Strawberry Farms. Freshman John Gustin shot a one-over-par 37 for Villa Park (1-1) at Strawberry Farms on Monday.

Aliso Niguel 187, Laguna Beach 201--Matt Schreiber had two birdies and seven pars for a two-under 33 for the Wolverines (2-2) at Aliso Viejo Golf Club.

Estancia 409, Long Beach Millikan 416--Joey Mueller shot five-over 77 at Mesa Verde and El Dorado for Estancia (2-0).

Tustin 195, Garden Grove 222--After making a double bogey on the first hole, junior Matt Isaacson rebounded to win medalist honors with a two-over 37 at Willowick for the Tillers (4-1).

In the Laguna Hills softball tournament:

Dana Hills 2, Huntington Beach 1--Candice Rainwater (1-1) struck out 10 and scored the winning run on Brittany Anzlovar’s sixth-inning ground out for the Dolphins (3-1). Ashley Perkins (1-1) got the loss for Huntington Beach (1-2).

In nonleague softball:

Orange 3, Rancho Alamitos 2 (8 innings)--Vanessa Zboril (2-2) earned the victory for visiting Orange (2-2). Jami Weddle had three hits for the Vaqueros.

In nonleague boys’ swimming:

No. 2 Newport Harbor 93, Corona del Mar 79--Andrew Cole won the 200 individual medley (2:03.93) and 100 backstroke (54.97) and also swam on the winning 200 medley relay team (1:45.40) for the Sailors (1-1).

In nonleague girls’ swimming:

No. 2 Newport Harbor 95, Corona del Mar 68--Nicole Mackey won the 200 freestyle (1:53.37) and 100 butterfly (59.96), and Carly Geehr won the 200 individual medley (2:08.33) and 100 free (53.51) for the host Sailors (2-0).

No. 9 Capistrano Valley 91, Villa Park 79--Kimberly Frifth came from behind in the anchor leg of the 400 freestyle relay to clock 53.2 and give Capistrano Valley a 3:50.17 first-place finish. Frifth also won the 100 freestyle (25.58). Erin Ketchum won the 200 (1:57.71) and 500 (5:15.95) freestyles for the Cougars (1-0).

In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

Ocean View 3, Los Alamitos 2--Jason Roth had 29 kills for visiting Ocean View, which won, 9-15, 9-15, 15-9, 15-3, 15-12.
