Beat Camarillo once and count your blessings.

Beat the Scorpions a second time in the same day and it’s time to shout from the dugout.

So says upstart Royal, which swept previously No. 5-ranked Camarillo in a nonleague doubleheader Thursday, 3-2 and 3-0.

“The [second] game wasn’t even over yet and they were saying, ‘Now that we’re beating Camarillo, we should be ranked,’ ” Royal Coach Kelly Lovato said.

We’re listening, Highlanders.

Royal (9-2) debuts at No. 10 in The Times’ regional poll this week.

“At the beginning of the season, [the team] might have thought this was a fluke, but now they know they’re a good team,” Lovato said.

Although the Highlanders are undefeated in nonleague and tournament games, the Marmonte League has proven much tougher.

Royal is 0-2 in league play with losses to Moorpark and Agoura.

Pitching around a top slugger is usually a good idea.

But it proved fatal for Newbury Park last week in a 3-2 Marmonte League loss to Thousand Oaks.

Sheridan Fowler walked three times and scored all three runs for Thousand Oaks (8-1).

Fowler is batting .400 and has nine stolen bases.
