The Edison and Mater Dei baseball teams will meet for the second time this season on Tuesday. This time, the stakes will be much higher.
Second-seeded Mater Dei (25-4), which won a coin flip Saturday and will host the game, can erase the sting of an April defeat to Edison with a victory over the Chargers (20-8-1) in a Southern Section Division II semifinal.
Trabuco Hills (21-8) will host Riverside Poly (22-7) in the other semifinal.
Third-seeded El Dorado (24-5) will host Laguna Hills (18-10), which upset second-seeded West Torrance, in a Division III semifinal.
In a Division V semifinal, upstart Whittier Christian (16-12) will play at Los Angeles Baptist (22-5). The Heralds, a wild-card entrant, defeated top-seeded Riverside Woodcrest Christian in the first round.
Capistrano Valley (21-8) and Fontana Miller (22-7) will play in a Division I semifinal at 7 p.m. at Blair Field in Long Beach.
