ALL IN ALL, THEY’RE JUST TWO TEAMS THAT HAVE HIT THE WALL

It’s always a special occasion when the Heidi Bowl contestants gather again in Oakland--couldn’t these Jets use Namath-to-Maynard now?--and today’s reunion is no different.

The Jets are bickering because they couldn’t manage a clock to save their season, running out of time and brain cells in last week’s 14-9 loss to Buffalo, and are on the verge of tumbling out of the playoffs altogether. The Raiders are bickering because they’ve lost two in a row, are 2-3 in their last five, and are on the verge of fumbling the No. 2 seeding and first-round bye to New England.

The problem, Raider quarterback Rich Gannon believes, is discipline.

“I think we need to be more disciplined,” he said this week. “I’ll get scolded for saying it, [but] we need to be a more disciplined football team.”

Gannon’s right, you know. He did get scolded for saying it.

“That’s not what we need to be talking about,” teammate Tim Brown shot back. “We need to be talking turnovers. [Gannon had three last Sunday.] If Rich can’t control that, then that’s [Coach Jon] Gruden’s job. If Gruden isn’t talking about [discipline], he doesn’t need to be talking about it.”

The same goes for either of these teams playing in the Super Bowl, needless to say.

The line: Oakland by 31/2.
