A Tustin man was killed early Wednesday when his car rear-ended a disabled vehicle on the Costa Mesa Freeway, authorities said. The two men pushing the stalled car escaped injury.

The 38-year-old man, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, died at the scene, said California Highway Patrol Officer Colleen Richardson.

The man was driving north on the freeway near Edinger Avenue when his car rammed into the stranded Ford Mustang shortly before 2 a.m., Richardson said. Police said the man may not have seen the car in the dark, although its emergency lights were blinking.
