Northridge Soccer Team Scores Opening-Day Victory

Tracy Lansing scored three goals in the second half Wednesday to lead the Northridge-based West Valley Samba under-16 girls’ team to a 4-0 victory over St. Louis Busch SC in round-robin play on the opening day of the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships in Germantown, Md.
In other girls’ games, the San Diego Surf White under-19 squad scored a 4-1 victory over the Michigan Hawks; Amy Rodriguez scored twice to lead the Laguna Hills Eclipse under-15 team to a 4-0 victory over Sting ’87 from Dallas, and the Newport Beach-based Slammers FC under-14 team defeated Bethesda (Md.) Eclipse, 1-0, behind Alexa Orand’s goal.
In boys’ play, the Blast SC, an under-19 team from San Bernardino, lost, 2-0, to the Texans 82/83 from Houston; the Irvine Strikers under-17 team defeated Dallas Texans ’85 Red, 3-2; the Palos Verdes Raiders under-15 team lost, 3-1, to Sockers FC Chicago, and the La Jolla Nomads White under-14 team scored a 2-0 victory over the Chicago Magic SC.
