Chief Plans New Unit to Fight Terrorism Threat

The city’s new police chief plans to create a unit designed to protect against terrorist attacks.
Earl Sanders, who took over the position July 15, announced this week that he will establish a new security bureau.
Mayor Willie Brown told Sanders in a letter that the “SOS” bureau will protect the city’s transportation and infrastructure. Sanders said the unit is necessary to make the city as safe as possible.
