Wein Won’t Coach Football at Westchester

Larry Wein, football coach at Westchester High since 1982, said Tuesday he has not been invited back to coach next season.

Wein, 59, who has been a head coach for 27 seasons, planned to retire from teaching this year but asked to continue coaching the Comets.

“My principal was not comfortable with that,” Wein said. “I’m disappointed.”

Westchester hasn’t lost a Western League game since 1998. The Comets won the City 3-A title in 1987.

Principal Dana Perryman said Wein decided to retire and insisted the coach had not been fired.
