Long Beach Poly’s Jones Signs With Washington

Bobby Jones, a Times’ all-region selection from Long Beach Poly, has signed to play basketball at Washington, Husky Coach Lorenzo Romar said.

Jones, a 6-foot-7, 195-pound forward, is the first recruit to sign with Washington since Romar was hired as coach on April 3. Jones averaged 19 points and nine rebounds during his senior season, helping the Jackrabbits to a 30-4 record and the Southern California regional finals.

Other commitments:

* Onye Ibekwe, a 6-6 forward from Crenshaw, has signed with Oklahoma State. Ibekwe needs a qualifying SAT score to be eligible next season.

* Luke Llamas and Jameson Mora, who led the Canyon Country Canyon boys’ cross-country team to a No. 2 national ranking last fall, have signed with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

* Michelle Rivera of Van Nuys Birmingham, runner-up in the girls’ pole vault in the City Section championships last year, has signed with UCLA. Rivera has a best of 12 feet.

* Two-time all-league pitcher Matt Lawson of Anaheim Esperanza has signed to play baseball at UC Riverside.

* Pitcher Adam Blankenbiller of Dana Hills and outfielder Renny Jackson of Santa Margarita have committed to Fresno State.
