10 Slammers Make Their Selections

The Slammers Futbol Club of Newport Beach has 10 girls’ soccer players who have committed to four-year schools.

They are Jennifer Brewer of La Mirada to Pepperdine; Brittany Emerson of San Clemente to New Mexico; Nicole James of Mission Viejo to Drake; Paige James of Newport Beach Corona del Mar to USC; Emily Kalmbach of Santa Margarita to Michigan; Kaela Kelly of Hesperia Sultana to Mississippi; Alivia Mazura of Corona del Mar to California; Sarah McLeod of Huntington Beach Marina to Long Beach State; Lauren Shepherdson of Corona del Mar to USC, and Tasia Duarte Turner of Placentia El Dorado to Utah.

Other commitments include:

* Swimmer Katie Nelson of Rolling Hills Estates Peninsula, a three-time national YMCA champion in the 1,650, has signed with UCLA.

* Newport Harbor’s Jenna Murphy, Santa Margarita’s Kacy Kunkel and Corona del Mar’s Christina Hewko signed to play women’s water polo at UCLA.

* Corona del Mar water polo player Brittany Bowlus signed with Stanford.

* Serena Butler, who holds Long Beach Poly’s record for the 100 butterfly at 59.69 seconds, has signed with UC Irvine.

* Crescenta Valley High swimmer Lindsay Taylor signed with Wyoming. Taylor is a four-time Pacific League individual champion and three-time Southern Section Division II finalist.

* Sheridan Arredondo, a 6-foot-3 center for Saugus, has committed to St. Mary’s. She averaged 16.5 points, 13.1 rebounds and 5.0 blocked shots last season.

* Kaelen Daniels, a 6-6 center from Lakewood Artesia, and 6-3 guard Sinqua Walls of El Segundo signed with Cal Poly Pomona.

* Khiara Ferguson, a 6-4 center for three-time state girls’ basketball champion Torrance Bishop Montgomery, has signed with American University.

* Mission Viejo infielder Taylor Holiday signed to play baseball at Arizona State. Also signing with the Sun Devils were infielder Joseph Persichina from Rolling Hills Estates Peninsula, La Palma Kennedy’s Pat Cassa, a left-handed pitcher and outfielder, and Zech Zincola, a pitcher and infielder from Riverside Arlington.

* Christian Vitters, an infielder from Cypress, signed with Fresno State.

* Softball players Jaisa Creps, Kristen Dedmon, Tara Henry and Jodi Legaspi have signed with UCLA. Creps is a catcher from Valencia, Dedmon is a pitcher and first baseman from Anaheim Esperanza, Henry is an outfielder from Orange El Modena and Legaspi is a shortstop from Garden Grove Pacifica.

* Kirstie Kenton, a softball pitcher for Simi Valley Royal, has committed to Colgate.

* Erika Peterson, a softball catcher at Irvine, has signed with Princeton.

* Garland Cooper, a softball player at Santa Margarita, signed with Northwestern.

* Julia Pederson, a girls’ basketball player at Santa Margarita, committed to Princeton.

* Quartz Hill volleyball player Kristen Voyson, the Golden League’s most valuable player, signed with Long Beach State.

* Outside hitter Jamie Garbisch of Los Alamitos has signed with UC Santa Barbara.

* Mandy Bible, a 5-10 setter for Santa Barbara San Marcos, signed with St. Mary’s.

* Jodi Borba, a soccer player at Atascadero, has committed to UC Irvine.

* Arturo Basulto of Arroyo Grande, the defending state heavyweight wrestling champion, has signed with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Basulto was runner-up in the Five Counties Invitational and third in the Southern Section Masters meet.
