For La Habra, Triple Overtime Pays Off

Sean Findling scored on a two-point conversion in the third overtime to lift top-seeded La Habra to a 25-24 victory over Covina Northview in a Southern Section Division IX quarterfinal Friday at La Habra.

Findling rushed for 73 yards in 11 carries for La Habra (11-1), which rallied from a 17-0 deficit at halftime to tie the score at 17 at the end of regulation

Daniel Morales completed nine of 28 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns and also set up Findling’s game-winning conversion with an 11-yard touchdown run in the third overtime.

Hector Corona kicked a 19-yard field goal and Danny Bonilla and James Overstreet scored on short touchdown runs to give Northview (9-3) a 17-0 lead at halftime.

Rudy Estrada scored on a one-yard run to give Northview a 24-17 lead in the third overtime. Northview lost a fumble on the one-yard line in the first overtime and lost a fumble at the 10 in the second overtime.

Trenton Sakioka missed a 17-yard field goal in the first overtime and La Habra turned it over on downs to end the second overtime.

La Habra, ranked No. 24 by The Times, will play Fountain Valley Los Amigos, a 34-7 winner over Covina, in a semifinal game on Dec. 7.

Lancaster Antelope Valley 43, Arcadia 22 -- Kreig Peters rushed for 126 yards and three touchdowns to lead Antelope Valley over fourth-seeded Arcadia in a Division III quarterfinal at Antelope Valley.

Brian Ziska completed 15 of 30 passes for 205 yards and one touchdown for the Apaches (10-2), but was intercepted six times -- twice by Bryon Davis and two more times by Ron Johnson. Davis and Johnson each returned one of their interceptions for a score.

The Antelopes (10-2) led, 13-0, at halftime after scoring runs of 17 and three yards by Peters in the second quarter. Alberto Castro made only one of two extra-point attempts.

Antelope Valley quarterback Johnny Walker left the game two minutes into the third quarter with a sprained thumb, but not before rushing for 96 yards in 13 carries and throwing for 47 yards, completing four of nine passes.

Walker is listed as questionable for the Dec. 7 semifinal against top-seeded Manhattan Beach Mira Costa, a 21-17 winner over Santa Fe Springs St. Paul.

Oxnard 28, Ventura Buena 14 -- Aaron Brown rushed 49 times for 226 yards and four touchdowns, including a go-ahead one-yard run with 2:09 left in the game, to spark the visiting Yellowjackets to a Division IV quarterfinal victory at Ventura High.

Brown scored on a two-yard run with 4:10 left in the first half to give Pacific View League champion Oxnard (11-1) a 7-6 halftime lead.

Alex Garfio of Buena (9-3) scored on a 65-yard run and Garrett Cushing connected with Cory Ford for a two-point conversion with 7:51 left in the game to tie the score at 14-14, but Oxnard marched 71 yards and consumed nearly six minutes on the ensuing drive, culminated by Brown’s touchdown.

Brown also scored on runs one and 25 yards as Oxnard outgained Buena, 283 yards to 167, on the ground.

Oxnard will play Westlake Village Westlake, a 36-29 winner over Paso Robles, in a semifinal on Friday.

Gardena Serra 35, Temple City 14 -- Ryan Kelley rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns in 26 carries to lead top-seeded Serra (12-0) to a Division X quarterfinal victory at Temple City.

Desmond Reed rushed for 132 yards in 19 carries for Temple City (8-4). His 14-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter cut Serra’s lead to 21-14, but Kelley ran for a 60-yard score later in the quarter and added a 40-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.

Kelley also scored on a six-yard run in the first quarter, during which the teams combined for four fumbles in wet conditions.

Serra will play L.A. Cathedral, a 36-30 overtime winner over El Segundo, in a semifinal on Dec. 7.
