WINNERS

* Ronald Valdez tied the L.A. Marshall school record with five sacks among the eight his team had against L.A. Hamilton in a 35-20 victory in a battle of previously winless teams.

* Then-No. 17 San Clemente committed 113 yards in penalties, gave Cole Bergquist his first varsity start in place of injured quarterback Beau Budde and still defeated then-No. 22 Santa Ana Foothill, 30-20.

* Gary White of L.A. Jefferson caught a 35-yard touchdown pass with 35 seconds left and intercepted a pass in the end zone with no time remaining as Jefferson upset Gardena, 26-21. Gardena had taken a 21-20 lead on a two-point conversion on a fake kick with 1:45 to go.

* Culver City avenged last season’s 49-7 loss to Beverly Hills with a 30-26 victory. Culver City was 3-6 last season. This year, the Centaurs are 5-0.

LOSERS

* Lancaster Paraclete, the Division XI school that went into the Southern Section record book with 28 consecutive victories -- the Southern Section’s sixth-highest total -- has lost two in a row. The Spirits were defeated by Division III Quartz Hill, 19-14, a week after losing to a Division VII team, Fontana Kaiser, 49-7.

* Ollie Linter, the Beverly Hills quarterback who had thrown at least four touchdowns in each of his first four games, and 18 total, didn’t throw any touchdown passes in a 30-26 loss to Culver City.

* Pasadena Muir trailed, 21-0, at halftime before rallying to within 21-20 against Lynwood. Going for the victory with 55 seconds left, Muir’s two-point conversion attempt failed.
