White Commits to Colorado

Brian White, a 6-foot-5 quarterback from Mission Viejo Trabuco Hills High who has been considered a rising college prospect, has committed to Colorado after visiting the school last weekend.

White has completed 90 of 169 passes for 1,419 yards and 10 touchdowns.

In other commitments:

* Crystal Erwin, a 6-2 senior forward at Santa Fe Springs St. Paul, has committed to Notre Dame.

Erwin, regarded as one of the top players in California, chose the Fighting Irish over UCLA, Georgia and Temple.

She averaged 24 points, 14.9 rebounds and 3.5 blocks last season.

* Jasmine Clarendon, a 6-1 senior center at Rialto Eisenhower who averaged more than 17 points and 10 rebounds, has committed to Pepperdine. Teammate Laura Dinkins, a 6-0 guard/forward at Eisenhower who averaged 13 points, has committed to Northern Arizona.

* Orange Lutheran senior Paul Koss, an infielder and pitcher for Orange Lutheran, has committed to USC. Another Lancer, junior softball player Tiffany Worthy, a catcher and first baseman, has committed to Michigan.

* Kevin Bell, an All-City point guard at L.A. Fairfax High, has committed to Louisiana Lafayette.

* Emily Ward, who has been playing girls’ soccer at Laguna Beach since her freshman year, has committed to California.

Owen Hanson, a senior at Los Alamitos, won the junior boys’ division of the World Long Drive Championship Saturday at Mesquite, Nev.

Hanson, who plays on the Los Alamitos golf team, had a best drive of 347 yards in the finals, outdistancing runner-up Erik Warshauer of Wisconsin by 16 yards.

Hanson’s drive would have been good enough for seventh place in the men’s open division.
