Murder Charges Against Foster Parent Dropped

Murder charges filed against a Gardena woman in the death last year of her foster child were dismissed Wednesday by a Superior Court judge.
Cookie Smith was accused of killing 2-year-old Jasmine Garcia, who lived with her for three months.
Judge Curtis Rappe granted a defense motion to dismiss charges of murder, child abuse and assault causing death and ordered Smith released.
