Brian Stevens passed for a school-record six touchdowns and wide receiver Whitney Lewis scored two touchdowns to lead Ventura St. Bonaventure High to a 52-0 victory over Dos Palos on Saturday night in season-opening football game at Ventura High.

The win was the 43rd in a row for St. Bonaventure, the three-time defending Southern Section Division XI champion that was playing its first game in four years without record-breaking running back Lorenzo Booker.

Booker is redshirting at Florida State.

“The offense really played well,” Coach Jon Mack said. “[Dos Palos] gave us the ball a few times and we were able to run them into some big scores.”

Dos Palos won its fifth consecutive Central Section Sequoia Division championship last year, but the Broncos were hit hard by graduation and fumbled five times.

St. Bonaventure led, 46-0, at halftime and scored touchdowns on its first eight possessions before pulling its starters.

Lewis, a highly regarded recruit, had 10 receptions for 167 yards and two touchdowns.

His first touchdown came with 4 minutes 11 seconds left in the first half when he made a one-handed catch over two defenders in the left corner of the end zone to complete an eight-yard scoring play.

Stevens, a 6-foot-3, left-handed junior, completed 20 of 25 passes for 330 yards. His six touchdowns broke the school record of five set by Teohua Sanchez in 1996.
