Beginning tonight, purses for quarter horse races will increase by 15 percent, which averages to $1,000 a race.

This means that the minimum purse for all overnight contests is $5,000 and the track will continue to pay $300 to the owner of every starter in all quarter horse races.

On tonight’s card, Paul Jones, the runaway leader in the trainer standings, will send out only three horses in the eight races and two of them are in the seventh, a 350-yard affair for older maidens.
