Eighty-one varsity and junior varsity high school athletic teams in the City Section have been put on probation and will not be permitted to play in at least one tournament this season for failing to turn in the proper paperwork to the section’s athletics office.

The City Rules committee decided to start imposing punishment because schools were repeatedly missing deadlines to submit paperwork for tournament participation. There were more than 300.

Among the schools that will have to drop a tournament this season are Reseda in boys’ and girls’ basketball, Wilmington Banning in baseball and Westchester in baseball. Westchester also has been banned from playing host to any tournament in boys’ basketball.
