A 22-year-old Oxnard man was killed and his passenger seriously injured in a car crash Saturday night on Rose Avenue, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 7:30 p.m. when the driver of a Pontiac Fiero struck a center median south of Gary Drive, hit a streetlight and then crossed oncoming traffic lanes before coming to rest in a dirt lot at Oxnard College.
The driver, whose name was withheld pending notification of his family, died at the scene. Passenger Ruben Santiago Lopez, also 22, of Oxnard was in critical condition Sunday at a local hospital.
A preliminary investigation found that alcohol may have contributed to the crash, according to Oxnard Police Senior Officer Scott Swenson.
