Breathe ... scream ...

Although A Static Lullaby vocalist Joe Brown lists Jimmy Eat World among his most influential bands, the Orange County quintet’s hard-core sound is more screamo than emo. Its debut album, “And Don’t Forget to Breathe,” sizzles with the angst-filled soul-searching reminiscent of AFI and Thursday. Inspired by torturous relationships and abusive parents, the album, though, reveals a lot of vulnerability. “Our music is pure emotion to us,” says Brown, 21, who met bandmates Nathan Lindeman, Phil Pirrone, Dan Arnold and Brett Dinovo in high school in Chino Hills. “When we get up on stage -- however we choose to release it -- it gets a little crazy.” In the past, those antics have left Brown with a broken hand and a bleeding head. Buckle up: ASL plays Saturday at the Troubadour.
