SOUTHERN SECTION

Norco (5-0, 0-0) at Corona Centennial (4-1, 0-0), 7, tonight

Centennial comes off a 36-33 upset of Fresno Clovis West, which was No. 16 in the state last week. The Huskies, ranked No. 20 in the Southland by The Times, have been giving up the ball inside their 20. To avenge last season’s 31-28 loss to Norco on a field goal with three seconds left, Centennial can’t afford to give the 12th-ranked Cougars a short field and must keep tailback Toby Gerhart from beating them outside. Gerhart has 877 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Centennial’s Brandon Minor has rushed for 1,062 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Los Angeles Loyola (4-1, 0-0) vs. La Puente Bishop Amat (3-2, 0-0) at Pierce College, 7, tonight

Loyola has given up only 33 points in five games, but it will look back in dismay to defensive lapses late in each half last week that cost it in a last-second, 17-16 loss to Newhall Hart. The No. 10 Cubs, led by running back Trason Bragg and wide receiver Matt Appenfelder, still figure to be among the favorites in the always-tough Serra League. After losses to Vista and Valencia, No. 15 Bishop Amat has averaged 30 points in three victories.

CITY SECTION

Los Angeles Fremont (5-0, 0-0) at Los Angeles Crenshaw (4-1, 0-0), 7, tonight

This is the big test Fremont has been waiting for after playing a weak nonleague schedule. If the Pathfinders expect to win their Coliseum League opener, running back Andre Bouvay, averaging 9.3 yards a carry, must lead the way against a quick, aggressive Crenshaw defense. No. 18 Crenshaw has its own offensive weapons in running back Rickie Collins and receiver Gardner McKay. No. 13 L.A. Dorsey awaits both in a battle for the league title.

San Pedro (3-2, 0-0) at Harbor City Narbonne (4-1, 0-0), 7, tonight

Narbonne’s breakout season took a turn last week when the Gauchos were throttled by No. 19 Woodland Hills Taft, knocking them out of The Times’ top 25. Now they must overcome a psychological hurdle against San Pedro, a school they’ve lost to 22 consecutive times.
