Hart Stops Chatsworth’s Winning Streak at 54

Newhall Hart put together two-run rallies Saturday in the third and fifth innings in the Moorpark/Southern California Showdown Gold Division title game at UCLA to defeat Chatsworth, 4-3, and end the Chancellors’ state-record winning streak at 54 games.

Matt Sreden drove in Matt Valaika with a single and Robert Van Scoyoc walked with the bases loaded in the fifth inning for Hart (4-0-1), ranked No. 12 in the Southland by The Times. Valaika and Shane Carlson had consecutive triples in the third inning.

Ninth-ranked Chatsworth (4-1), the two-time defending City Section champion, scored in the fourth inning when Mitul Patel doubled in Bobby Coyle.

Mike Moustakas hit a two-run home run with none out in the seventh inning for Chatsworth. However, Danny Williams, who pitched three innings, retired the next three batters.

Steve Burton pitched four innings for Hart, striking out one and allowing no walks, to earn the victory. Josh Ravin pitched four innings for Chatsworth, striking out five and allowing four runs.

In the third-place game, Eric Pettis struck out 10, walked one and gave up four hits to lead third-ranked Woodland Hills El Camino Real (4-1) to a 4-2 victory over Encino Crespi (3-2).

Ryan Lavarnway hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to provide the winning margin.

* Genna Allen, Thousand Oaks: Her bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the sixth inning gave her five RBIs in a 9-8 semifinal victory over Woodland Hills El Camino Real in the Newhall Hart softball tournament semifinals. The Lancers will play Westlake Village Westlake for the title on a date to be determined.
