A reader recently notified the Palisadian-Post that when he clicked on “Obituaries” on the newspaper’s website, the first topic listed was Palisades High football.

The newspaper assured the reader that it was just a malfunction -- and had nothing to do with the team’s 47-0 loss the previous week.

This just in: After the snafu was corrected, Pali’s football team recorded a 33-21 victory, so its season is by no means moribund.

Unclear on the concept?: John Viencek of Fontana noted that one library was given a literacy grant -- and not a moment too soon (see accompanying).

Word imperfect: Dino Reyes of El Segundo shared a goof made by a customer of his company, the proper name of which is Gentle Dental (see accompanying).

Strange restroom signs: Joyce Stern, Sue Mitchell and Elaine Jacobs of Redondo Beach teamed up to send me a notice about an unusual source of magic in Kusadasi, Turkey (see photo).

Such a deal: “It appears I ‘purchased’ some ‘cash’ for free and got most of it back in change, along with my food,” wrote Doug Haynes of Westlake Village.

“I intend to continue my patronage of this restaurant!” (see accompanying).

Ready for your close-up, Your Honor: In case you hadn’t heard, L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will appear in an episode of the ABC sitcom “The George Lopez Show” on Oct. 5. The role shouldn’t be a stretch: He plays himself.

L.A. mayors in show biz are a tradition.

When he was in office, Richard Riordan acted in local productions of “Thank You, Jeeves” (as a blustering millionaire dad) and “Love Letters” (opposite then-Councilwoman Laura Chick) and in a TV movie, “The Elian Gonzalez Story” (in a cameo as a hospital spokesman).

Riordan’s predecessor, Tom Bradley, played himself on the TV detective show “Hunter,” among others. And Bradley’s predecessor, Sam Yorty, had a guest role on TV’s “Here’s Lucy” in addition to a banjo-playing demonstration on “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson.

The one break in the tradition was the reign of Villaraigosa’s predecessor Jim Hahn, who didn’t land any acting roles despite his obvious charisma.

miscelLAny: “He’s Pomona’s answer to Reggie, the Lake Machado alligator,” said columnist David Allen of the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin. Allen was referring to Big Al, a 13 1/2 -foot gator who’s on display at the L.A. County Fair.

Only thing is it costs $1 to visit Big Al in his tent and Allen said that when he was there, the gator wasn’t drawing a lot of visitors.

Perhaps fair patrons figured they could see Reggie for free.
