Moorpark’s late score beats Thousand Oaks

Moorpark High junior quarterback Brody Rohach connected on a 19-yard pass to James Dearborn for the game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter to give the visiting Musketeers a 20-17 Marmonte League victory over No. 24-ranked Thousand Oaks on Friday night.

Rohach usually splits time at quarterback with Brian Blechen, who sat out due to injury, but he completed 20 of 39 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns.

Early in the second half, he threw seven consecutive incomplete passes, but on the Musketeers’ winning possession he completed passes of 13 and 15 yards to push Moorpark into the red zone.

“He showed a lot of poise under pressure,” said Moorpark Coach Tim Lins, whose team improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in league. “He came through when he needed to.”

Tyler Peterson led Moorpark with 104 rushing yards in 29 carries.

Running back John Lister finished with 105 yards in 19 carries, including a 43-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, for Thousand Oaks (6-1, 3-1).

Orange Lutheran gets back on track

Garret Gilliland and Kyle Dravis each scored touchdowns in the fourth quarter to help No. 18 Orange Lutheran (6-1, 2-0) take a 34-21 victory over No. 13 Bellflower St. John Bosco (6-1, 1-1) in a Trinity League game at Orange Coast College.

Orange Lutheran was able to contain St. John Bosco quarterback Keith Price, who couldn’t break off any big plays and had passes intercepted by Terrence Brown and Gabe Lemon.

The Lancers held a 21-14 halftime lead but failed to pick up a first down in three third-quarter possessions. They got their running game going in the fourth quarter, with Gilliland scoring on a two-yard run and Dravis scoring on a 40-yard run. Gilliland finished with 82 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Price passed for 188 yards, scored one touchdown and passed for one touchdown. Yates Tierney had three sacks for St. John Bosco in the third quarter.

Westlake Village Oaks Christian’s Malcolm Jones had 173 all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns, while quarterback Nick Montana passed for three scores to lead the eighth-ranked Lions (7-0, 2-0) to a 56-0 Tri-Valley League home victory over Carpinteria (2-5, 0-2). . . . Running back Kenny Bassett rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns to lead Beverly Hills (5-2, 2-0) to a 26-10 win over Santa Monica (6-1, 1-1) in an Ocean League game at Santa Monica College. . . . Senior quarterback Desi Rodriguez ran for 158 yards and threw for 150 more, accounting for five touchdowns, to lead Saugus to a 66-24 road victory over Valencia West Ranch (2-5, 1-1) in a Foothill League matchup. Senior running back Ryan Zirbel rushed for 216 yards, scored three times, and forced a fumble for the Centurions (4-3, 2-0). . . . Newhall Hart used a fourth-down stop against Canyon Country Canyon to take a 29-27 Foothill League victory.
