Bicyclist, 70, is fatally struck by vehicle on Coachella street

A 70-year-old bicyclist was killed Tuesday while riding down a street in Coachella.

Authorities say Ruben de la Cruz Miramontes was struck in the southbound lane of Van Buren Street, between Avenue 48 and Avenue 49.

Miramontes, a Mexican citizen, died at the scene. The vehicle’s driver and passengers were not injured.

Anyone with information about the collision was asked to contact the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at (760) 863-8990.
