Briefs: Baseball camp begins Tuesday

A Youth Baseball Summer Camp will begin Tuesday at the Laguna Beach High baseball field.

The camp is open to youth ages five to 14 including incoming freshman athletes. The camp will run from 5 to 7 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday through July 21 at Skipper Carrillo Field. Laguna Beach varsity baseball Coach Mike Bair, the Breakers coaching staff and current players, will lead campers through various baseball activities while teaching proper technique and fundamentals.

Hoops camp starts in August

A Summer Basketball Camp will start in August at the Laguna Beach High gymnasium.

The camp, run by Laguna Beach boys’ basketball Coach Bret Fleming, is open to youth in grades sixth through eighth. It will run from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 1-5. Registration information can be obtained through the City of Laguna Beach Recreation Dept. (https://lagunabeachcity.net).

U.S. team sweeps Hungary

The U.S. Olympic Women’s Water Polo Team, which includes Makenzie and Aria Fischer of Laguna Beach, completed a three-game East Coast sweep of Hungary with a 10-7 victory Saturday at Fordham University in The Bronx, N.Y.

The series began June 27 at Ransom Everglades High in Miami, Fla. Aria Fischer scored twice and Makenzie Fischer once in Team USA’s 13-6 win. In the second series game June 29, Team USA downed Hungary, 11-6, at the YMCA of Greenwich, Conn.

Team USA next will host Russia in a three-game series beginning July 21 in San Diego at Cathedral Catholic High. The teams will play July 24 (2 p.m.) at UCLA, and July 27 (7 p.m.) at Stanford University.

Lewis returns

Michael Lewis of Laguna Beach returned to racing competition after a two-week hiatus and earned a top-10 finish (Round 12) Saturday at the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Road America series championship. Driving a No. 98 Calvert Dynamics/Curb-Agajanian Porsche 911 GT3 R, Lewis placed 10th at Elkhart Lake, Wisc.

Lewis is schedule to next race in rounds 14 and 15 of the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Road America series championship July 29-30 at the Mid-Oho Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
