Huntington Beach High closed out a perfect run through Sunset League Tuesday by sweeping visiting Fountain Valley, 26-24, 25-15, 25-6.

The win put the Oilers, ranked seventh in CIF Southern Section Division 1AA, at 27-4 overall (10-0 league) and gave them their second consecutive league championship.

Kierra Pearson had 10 kills and Ashleigh Atsaros six kills for Huntington.

“It was a great celebration of our seniors tonight,” Huntington Coach Craig Pazanti said. “We had contributions from everyone and it was nice to finish the league undefeated. Any time you can win the Sunset League, you have accomplished something, and I look forward to continuing the way we have been playing as the [CIF] playoffs begin.”

Edison finished runner-up to the title and completed an 8-2 league campaign by subduing visiting Newport Harbor in a close match, 25-20, 25-20, 24-26, 18-25, 15-7. Hannah Phair led the eighth-ranked Chargers with 18 kills and 21 digs. Cassidy Dennison and Lindsey Sparks both added 12 kills, Emilie Austin had 25 assists and Dani Dennison had a team-high 24 digs.

The Chargers will take a 19-9 record into the playoffs.

“This was a good victory for us,” Edison Coach Matt Skolnik said. “After dropping Games 3 and 4, we showed a lot of resiliency by coming out and playing our best game of the match in Game 5. I think this victory will give us some momentum going into the playoffs next week.”

In another Sunset match Tuesday, third-place Los Alamitos (6-4) swept visiting Marina, 25-18, 25-16, 25-12. Abby Hills had 15 kills for the Vikings (0-10).

“I’m bummed to see these girls season end without getting a league win,” Marina Coach Paul Munoz said. “They are very deserving of this and I’m really hard on myself that I wasn’t able to produce this feeling of success for the girls. They were such a unique and passionate group this year, and I’m forever grateful to have coached girls that see the bigger picture in life rather than focused 100% on volleyball. In the end, it’s a ball and a net. Proud to have coached these girls this season.”

The CIF-SS girls’ volleyball playoff pairings will be released Friday. Wild-card matches are Saturday and first-round matches are Tuesday.
