City Section will announce restart date once teachers’ strike concludes

City Section commissioner John Aguirre said Thursday teams will need a day or two of practice time before restarting the sports season that was halted on Monday after teachers began a strike against the Los Angeles Unified School District. Negotiations between teachers and the LAUSD resumed on Thursday.
Aguirre said he would consult with the LAUSD and coaching committees to come up with new start and end dates once the strike is over and decide if playoff schedules need to be revised.
“It wouldn’t be fair to bring kids in cold and tell them to play the next day,” Aguirre said.
Aguirre has canceled all coaching meetings until a settlement is reached.
