Baseball: Brian Schales hits two home runs for Edison

One of the best shortstops in Southern California is Brian Schales of Huntington Beach Edison. The Long Beach State signee hit two home runs and went four for four on Friday in a 7-2 Sunset League victory over Los Alamitos.

Huntington Beach defeated Marina, 9-4. Clint Jack had a three-run home run and Daniel Amaral had two hits and two RBIs. Fountain Valley stayed in first place with a 4-2 win over Newport Harbor. Daniel Patzlaff hit a two-run home run. Scott Schultz improved to 10-0.

In the Mission League, Alemany (17-5-2, 6-2) routed No. 1 Harvard-Westlake, 13-5. Ruben Cardenas went five for five. Alex Mckenna had a two-run home run. Alemany had 22 hits. Harvard-Westlake is 17-5-1 and 5-2-1.

Loyola (18-4-1, 8-1-1) took over first place with a 7-1 win over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. Nathan Hadley allowed one hit in 4 2/3 innings while walking five. Julian Gonzalez didn’t allow a hit in 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Chaminade completed a sweep of Crespi with a 7-4 victory. Blake Rutherford had three hits and Nick Kahle had two hits. Darren Kriz added two hits and three RBIs.

In the Trinity League, Santa Margarita (7-4) moved into second place thanks to a 7-4 victory over Orange Lutheran on Friday. Griffin Canning struck out nine in six innings and Dillon Miyashira contributed three hits.

JSerra got a squeeze bunt in the sixth inning for the only run in a 1-0 win over Servite. Servite felt the runner was out at the plate. Coach Jeff Sears and a player were ejected after the play, but Sears said he was restricted instead of ejected after the umpire admitted he missed the call. Parker Joe Robinson threw a three-hitter, striking out nine.

Freshman Nick Pratto threw a complete game in Mater Dei’s 4-0 win over St. John Bosco. Jonathan Schiffer had two RBIs.

In the Foothill League, Hart defeated West Ranch, 3-2. Nick Valaika hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh. Paul Richan threw a complete game. Hart is tied for first place with Saugus, which defeated Valencia, 8-5. Valencia’s Keston Hiura hit two home runs and Chad Bible added another home run. Devin Davis went four for four. Eric Little threw 6 1/3 innings for his seventh win. Canyon defeated Golden Valley, 10-6.

In the Baseline League, Los Osos defeated Rancho Cucamonga, 11-3. Glendora improved to 10-1 with a 5-4 win over Etiwanda in eight innings. Kale Morton drove in the winning run. Eric Flores had a two-run home run and RJ Romo had three hits.

In the Moore League, Long Beach Wilson defeated Cabrillo, 25-1. Cole Brown went four for five.

In the Olympic League, Village Christian clinched at least a share of the title with an 8-1 win over Maranatha. Chris Davidson struck out eight in a complete game.

In the Marmonte League, Agoura defeated Thousand Oaks, 6-5. Daniel Cipriano hit two home runs, including the game winner in the seventh. Bailey Holbrook had three RBIs for Thousand Oaks. Westlake defeated Simi Valley, 4-1. Newbury Park defeated Calabasas, 3-0. Chris Clarke threw a one-hitter. Royal defeated Moorpark, 4-3. Chris Kovach struck out six in six innings.

In the Sierra League, Chino Hills defeated Ayala, 9-1. Chris Ceballos hit two home runs. Gavin Velasquez threw the shutout in South Hills’ 1-0 win over Charter Oak.

Cypress defeated Pacifica, 7-1. Elijah Skipps, Brandon Alamo, Jarren Duran and Mikhail Izraylev each had two hits.

In the Century League, Esperanza scored a run in the eighth to defeat El Modena, 9-8. Hayden Nix went four for four.

In the South Coast League, El Toro defeated Trabuco Hills, 4-3. Collin Kentros had three hits. Jarred Zill threw five shutout innings in Capistrano Valley’s 3-0 win over Mission Viejo.

In the West Valley League, El Camino Real (5-1) and Chatsworth (5-1) stayed tied for first place. El Camino Real defeated Cleveland, 10-0, behind Brian Gallagher, who threw a one-hitter. Eric Yang had three hits and Hayden Rappoport had a home run. Tommy Palomera allowed three hits in Chatsworth’s 10-0 win over Granada Hills. Rily Conlan had four RBIs and Michael Baregamyan had three hits.

Birmingham defeated Taft, 17-2. Freshman Justin Rorick had two singles, a triple and three RBIs. Victor Robles added two hits and three RBIs.

In the East Valley League, North Hollywood clinched the league title with a 10-0 win over Grant. Sophomore Ryan Ruiz threw the shutout. Tyson Turner, Andrew Marmor and Alex Sepulveda each had two hits. Poly defeated Chavez, 3-0.

In the Bay League, Peninsula (18-5, 5-1) stayed in first place with a 13-0 win over Mira Costa.

Willem Mostert threw a no-hitter in El Segundo’s 13-0 win over Lawndale. Joey Garza had four RBIs.

In the Pacific League, Hoover defeated Burroughs, 4-3. Fidel Hernandez finished with three hits and two RBIs, including a home run. Jimmy Smiley and Joe Torres combined on a one-hitter in Crescenta Valle’s 11-0 win over Glendale. Austin Brines and Brett Klein each had two RBIs.

In the Valle Vista League, Baldwin Park defeated Pomona, 8-1. Sergio Flores, Christian Barraza and Justin Padilla each had two hits.

In the Pacific View League, Oxnard defeated Camarillo, 2-1. Joseph Romero struck out nine.
