Baseball: Blake Rutherford’s three-run home run lifts USA 18U team
A three-run home run by Blake Rutherford from Chaminade highlighted a five-run ninth inning rally that lifted the USA 18U national team to a 7-4 win over South Korea in the opening game of the Super Round of the U18 World Cup on Thursday in Japan.
USA trailed, 4-2, going into the ninth. Hagen Danner (Huntington Beach) had a pinch-hit doube in the inning. Rutherford’s home run came on a 3-and-2 count and gave USA a 5-4 lead.
USA will play Cuba on Friday.
