Baseball: Cleveland wins again to improve to 22-1

Reseda Cleveland is about to enter final exam time. So far, the Cavaliers have passed virtually every test. They improved to 22-1 on Saturday with an 8-1 victory over Westchester. Jack Fox threw a complete game, allowing three hits. Chris Gonzalez went three for four with a triple.

Cleveland is in first place in the West Valley League with sweeps of Granada Hills and Taft. But next up is Chatsworth, followed by two-game series against Birmingham and El Camino Real. They are the other top teams in league.

Taft 11, Kennedy 2: Alex Davis had three hits and three RBIs.

Westlake 6, Chatsworth 4: Keefer Mehan threw five innings with five strikeouts for the Warriors. Bo Jelinek picked up his sixth save. Jackson Kritsch had three hits and Tyler Flores and Eddie Kutt added two apiece.

El Camino Real 11, San Pedro 3: Jose Campos threw a complete game and Daniel Moreno contributed three hits.

Redondo 13, Santa Monica 1: The Sea Hawks (18=0) received home runs from Sean Reynolds and Danny Zimmerman. Reynolds improved to 7-0 by throwing five innings.

Mira Costa 2, Golden Valley 0: Freshman Merrick Baldo allowed one hit and struck out five.

Sierra Canyon 4, Malibu 3: Corey Jones had a home run and Trevor Howarth had two hits.

North Hollywood 15, Van Nuys 4: Ryan Ruiz hit a grand slam and finished with five RBIs.

Sun Valley Poly 13, Garfield 1: Sebastian Casares had two hits and four RBIs.

Culver City 8, Salesian 2: Jason Zeidman threw four shutout innings for Culver City.

Newbury Park 6-8, Vista Murrieta 3-2: The Panthers swept a doubleheader. Nick Spencer went three for three in the second game.

North 9, Saugus 5: Nick Pena, Manny Galvan, Brian Martin and David Magallanez each had two hits for North.

Hart 6, Los Osos 0: Sophomore Ryan Carolan threw a two-hit shutout. Grant Thuente had three hits and Dillon Klement and Nick Plaia added two apiece for Hart.

Corona Santiago 5, Great Oak 1: Ryan Rutherford gave up one run in 5 1/3 innings.

Agoura 8-7, Simi Valley 5-4: Jake Benun had two hits and two RBIs for Agoura in the first game of a doubleheader. Jonny DeLuca and Ben Baird each had three hits to complete Agoura’s second-game sweep.

Gahr 3, Peninsula 1: Five pitchers combined for a two-hitter. Sammy Arizaga had 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief.

Bishop Amat 4, Long Beach Wilson 0: Jayson Gonzalez went three for four and Isaac Esqueda struck out six and allowed two hits in a complete-game shutout.

Cypress 7, Palos Verdes 5: Isaak Gutierrez, Ryan McCanless, Aaron Lizarraga and Jason Baca each had two hits for Cypress.

San Fernando 15, Granada Hills 3: Louie Vargas was two for two with a two-run home run.

Birmingham 8, Bell 0: Freshman Jonny Tincher had a double and single. Aiden Medina threw four shutout innings, striking out six. Ryan Mendoza had two hits and two RBIs.
