Baseball: Dane Morrow pitches Oaks Christian to share of Marmonte League title
Facing a must-win situation against rival Westlake, Oaks Christian turned to pitcher Dane Morrow, who struck out seven and threw a two-hitter in the Lions’ 4-0 victory that left them atop the Marmonte League with Agoura.
Oaks Christian and Agoura each finished the league season at 10-5, but the Lions will enter the Division 1 playoffs as the league’s No. 1 team by virtual of winning two of three games over Agoura.
Cortez Espinoza, Nick Paciorek and Phil Quartararo each had two hits.
Agoura 4, Calabasas 1: Michael Weisberg allowed four hits in a complete game for the Chargers, who claimed the Marmonte League’s No. 2 spot. Michael Radin and Tommy Tabak each had two hits.
Thousand Oaks 5, Newbury Park 4: Josh Waite, Andrew Berard and Riley Jones each had two hits for Thousand Oaks. Zach Clarke had a home run and three RBIs for Newbury Park.
Corona Santiago 6, Roosevelt 3: The Sharks won the Big VIII League championship. Manny Perez threw a complete game and also had two RBIs.
Crespi 3, Chaminade 2: The Celts pulled out the nine-inning Mission League win on Alex Densmore’s game-winning single. Sonny Haro threw four innings of relief, giving up one run. Densmore had two hits. Crespi played without Coach Mike Glendenning, whose father, Michael Allen Noblitt, died last week of a heart attack. The funeral is Thursday.
Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 4, Loyola 2: Ryan Morris threw a complete game and Derek Kraemer had a two-run double. Loyola and Chaminade are tied for first place in the Mission League with one game to play.
Harvard-Westlake 12, Alemany 1: Cameron Deere allowed one run in six innings and also hit a home run for the Wolverines. Leo Kaplan had three hits. Harvard-Westlake (10-7), Notre Dame (9-8) and Alemany (8-9) are battling for the final two Division 1 playoff spots from the Mission League with one game to play.
Quartz Hill 7, Knight 2: The Rebels clinched the Golden League championship. Christian Epley and Andrew Garcia each had two hits and two RBIs.
Baldwin Park 6, Duarte 5: Ismael Cueva had two hits and two RBIs.
Brentwood 3, Paraclete 2: The Eagles won the 11-inning game at Jet Hawks Stadium.
Temescal Canyon 5, Lakeside 4: Tyler Pritchard and Dylan Alhanati both hit home runs. Temescal Canyon is 18-9 and 10-1 in league.
Trabuco Hills 10, Tesoro 6: Daniel Johnson contributed three hits and five RBIs for Trabuco Hills.
JSerra 7, St. John Bosco 2: In the completion of a suspended game from last week, JSerra scored five runs in the eighth inning to win the Trinity League game. Davis Wendzel hit a three-run home run in the eighth. Brady Shockey finished with three hits.
Bishop Amat 1, St. Paul 0: Diego Barrera threw a four-hit shutout.
Royal 3, Simi Valley 0: Yeager George threw a three-hitter for Royal.
Village Christian 3, South Pasadena 0: The Crusaders finished 20-6 in the regular season and won the Olympic League title. Adriel Bermeo, David Barta, Eric Ma, Colin McGeary and Gordon Ingebritson combined on a four-hit shutout.
Maranatha 11, Heritage Christian 1: Daniel Netz went three for three.
Long Beach Millikan 3, Lakewood 1: Millikan won the Moore League championship by pulling out a 10-inning victory. Spencer Steer pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the win.
