Baseball: Granada Hills Kennedy is off to 6-1 start

Granada Hills Kennedy could be ready to offer competition to defending City Section champion San Fernando in the Valley Mission League this season. The Golden Cougars improved to 6-1 on Thursday with an 11-1 victory over University.

Nick Rodriguez had a three-run home run and finished with four RBIs. Josh Gonzalez had two hits and four RBIs. Felix Rubi improved to 3-0, striking out four and walking none in five innings.

Sylmar improved to 7-2 with an 11-0 win over Maywood Carlos Telles had three hits.

Banning (5-2) continued its outstanding play in nonleague action with a 4-1 win over South Torrance. Gino Brockway allowed five hits and struck out six. Julian Villegas, Juan Gallardo, Jason Yanez and Justin Yanez each had an RBI single.

Narbonne (5-2) defeated Torrance, 7-6. Isac Lepe hit a two-out, two-run walk-off double to win the game. Adrian Perez had two hits and two RBIs.

Gardena Serra defeated LACES, 10-3. Adrian Morales, Shane Early and Kennedy Guillen each had two hits.

Hoover defeated Eagle Rock, 6-5. Fidel Hernandez had a double and home run.

Heritage Christian defeated Wilson, 15-0, in five innings. Tyler Noe allowed three hits.

Cleveland defeated Verdugo Hills, 9-2. Freshman Sam Villa threw a complete game. Campbell Hall defeated Brentwood, 10-6 Elliott Lane had a home run.

Sun Valley Poly defeated Sierra Canyon, 5-3. Tavo Marquez had two hits.
