Boys’ basketball: Chaminade’s Joel Loth prepares for playoffs and ‘Beauty and the Beast’

It’s double practice time for Chaminade senior Joel Loth.

In the afternoon, he’s rehearsing for his starring role in the spring school musical, “Beauty and the Beast” as Gaston.

Then he’s going to basketball practice to prepare for the start of the Southern Section Division 4AA playoffs.

“I heard he’s pretty good,” basketball Coach Todd Wolfson said.

You won’t miss Loth on stage. He’ll be the tallest person at 6 feet 5. He has played football and basketball for the Eagles.

One problem is if Chaminade is really good in basketball and makes it to the state regionals, that could interfere with the musical commitment. Of course, there’s always an understudy.

Loth has good voice genes. His father, David, is a professional opera singer.

“They’re going to have an influx of football and basketball players seeking tickets,” Wolfson said.
