Boys’ basketball: Ed Azzam ties Willie West with his 803rd coaching victory
It was an historic Saturday for Coach Ed Azzam of Westchester.
The Comets’ 56-52 win over Sacramento Sheldon in Las Vegas was victory No. 803 for Azzam, tying him with former Crenshaw Coach Willie West for most basketball coaching victories in City Section history.
“It just means I’ve been coaching a long time and had a lot of good players,” said Azzam, who began in 1979-80 and has an overall record of 803-252, according to CalHiSports.com.
Keith Fisher scored 16 points for Westchester (7-4).
