Executive Committee recommends approval of competitive equity playoff groupings

The Southern Section Executive Committee has unanimously recommended approval of a new competitive equity playoff format beginning next season for most sports in the section.
The Southern Section Council made up of representatives from each league is scheduled to vote on the proposal next Wednesday in Long Beach.
The biggest change would come in the football playoffs. Currently, teams are placed in playoff divisions based on what league they play in. If the proposal passes, individual teams will be placed in divisions before the season based on a formula that includes using two years of statistics from a combination of past performance, playoff success and strength of schedule.
The Executive Committee also endorsed a change in the sports calendar for 2016-17 that would move up the start of the baseball and softball seasons to Feb. 11 and end on May 19 and 20.
