It was hot, there was sweat everywhere and after nine hours of competition in the 24-team Charter Oak seven on seven passing tournament, Alemany won the championship with an overtime victory over the host Chargers. Tyree Thompson came up with the decisive interception in overtime.

Alemany showed off its new quarterback, Blake Green, and another standout receiver, Brandon Pierce. Alemany Coach Dean Herrington also singled out linebacker Nolan Jackson and receiver Chaz Collins.

Charter Oak had plenty to be happy about. The Chargers used a group of sophomores-to-be and also relied on Zion Echols, a running back-defensive back who was the Sierra League offensive player of the year as a sophomore. “He’s a special kid,” Coach Lou Farrar said. “There can’t be a better junior.”

Seven on seven passing tournaments are being held earlier than ever.

Few teams were at full strength, because the Southern Section track prelims were going on and some athletes had proms in the evening. But the stars were out en force.

Among the quarterbacks, Pac-12 bound Brady White of Hart and Tyler Hilinski of Upland were flinging spirals. Hart receiver Trent Irwin and Bishop Amat receiver Tyler Vaughns were putting on a show. Westlake quarterback Malik Henry was showing off his arm.

Alemany defeated Westlake in the quarterfinals and Bishop Amat in the semifinals. Charter Oak defeated Hart in the semifinals.
