Football: Andre Chevalier Jr. has message for Oaks Christian teammates

Share

Westlake Village Oaks Christian is 2-0 after victories over Bakersfield and Upland, but the Lions will be facing a new challenge over the next few weeks. Top City Section schools Venice this week at Venice and Crenshaw on Sept. 27 at Crenshaw will offer the Lions severe tests.

Last season, Oaks Christian was stunned by Crenshaw at home, 13-2. Quarterback Brandon Dawkins had his worst game, throwing five interceptions.

Junior linebacker Andre Chevalier Jr. is one of the best tacklers on defense. He also knows something about the City Section. His father, Andre, was the boys’ basketball coach at Reseda Cleveland. He knows how hard Crenshaw and City Section players work.

“They always come with heart,” Chevalier said. “You have to be ready to play and give your all because that’s what they’re going to do every game.”
This week will feature lots of City Section vs. Southern Section clashes, from Venice-Oaks Christian to Alemany-Narbonne, Carson-Mater Dei and Dorsey-Santa Margarita.
