Football: Carson is waiting on 11 transfers
Carson and Upland are engaged a great battle off the field in the transfer game. So far, Carson leads, 14-13, in football transfers.
According to the City Section office, three of 14 Carson transfers have been approved. The City Section office is waiting for Carson officials to send in paperwork verifying that the other 11 transfers officially moved.
Carson opens its season on Saturday against Fresno Edison.
Upland and the Upland Unified School District are continuing an investigation with the Southern Section that resulted in two assistant coaches not being allowed to coach with the team last Friday against Mater Dei. Their status remains uncertain. Upland Principal Ivan Ayro said Tuesday he can’t comment on the status of the coaches because it is a personnel matter.
Three Upland players who were declared ineligible by the Southern Section are expected to appeal.
Both schools are facing scrutiny because section commissioners around the state vowed to pay special attention to schools that received unusual amount of transfers after the CIF approved a new transfer rule last year that changed the sit-out period from one year to one month for athletes who did not move and reduced hardship waiver requests.
