Football: Desean Holmes fuels Alemany surge [Video]

More than a week ago, Alemany was on the verge of perhaps not making the Pac-5 playoffs after being upset in its Serra League opener by Loyola and losing two key defensive players to injuries.

Now the Warriors are suddenly close to winning another Serra League championship after consecutive wins over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and Bishop Amat.

Leading the way has been junior receiver Desean Holmes. He had seven receptions for 126 yards and one touchdown in a 35-27 win over Notre Dame. On Friday night, he rallied Alemany (7-2, 2-1) from 12 points down to a 29-26 victory over Bishop Amat. Holmes caught eight passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns.

All Alemany has to do is defeat Crespi in its regular season finale on Nov. 8 to clinch at least a share of the title. Notre Dame (6-3, 2-1) also can gain a share of the title with a win next week against Loyola. Alemany and Notre Dame would be the two Pac-5 playoff teams from the Serra League.
