The two teams didn’t take long to finish things up in overtime.

Arleta scored first on a field goal. Then Sylmar won it, 42-39, when Marcus Gandy scored a touchdown on a three-yard run.

Then Sylmar players went back on the bus and back to school to practice for a Friday game against Panorama. Arleta players took off their uniforms, put on their practice gear and started getting ready for a Friday game against Verdugo Hills.

Call it the weirdest Monday ever. City Section rules mandate that there can be no ties, forcing the teams to play an overtime on Monday.

Arleta dropped to 7-1 and lost for only the second time ever at home. Sylmar improved to 5-3.
