Football: Kanya Bell nearing a return to Long Beach Poly

Share

It appears as if things are heading in the right direction for Long Beach Poly this season. Good news is, although the information could be bad for future opponents, the program is on the verge of becoming even better with the soon-to-be addition of transfer Kanya Bell.

After a 34-24 nonleague victory against Westlake on Friday night, it was revealed that the high-profile senior from Diamond Bar who played for the Jackrabbits as a freshman is nearing a long-awaited return from a lingering knee injury. Perhaps as soon as two weeks.

“We haven’t needed him so far, luckily. Still, it’ll be nice once he’s in the rotation,” said Antonio Pierce, coach for Long Beach Poly (3-0) and longtime NFL veteran. “If things work out, he could be available before the start of Moore League play. He’s another weapon.”

Pierce hit the nail on the head: There is no shortage of talent at Poly. Particularly on the offensive side. Senior quarterback Josh Love has built a good rapport with fellow classmates in receivers Johnnie Rucker and Dae’John Jeffrey Logan as well as running back Jeremy Calhoun.

Some signs point to Bell possibly being the final piece of the puzzle. We are, after all, talking about a 6-foot, 160-pound athlete who has a handful of college scholarship offers, including nearby UCLA and USC. Once he joins the mix, maybe on Sept. 26., watch out for the Jackrabbits.
